Meet DouG
“People ask me all the time what method I teach, and I always tell them there isn’t one. After all these years, I know there’s only what works—what gets you in the place you need to be to tell the story honestly. Every actor comes in with different fears, habits, and strengths, and my job is to meet them right where they are and help them find the part of themselves that connects to the work. Class isn’t always comfortable, but it’s always safe. It’s a place to build trust, ask better questions, and do the work together. That’s when real confidence shows up—and that’s when the acting starts to feel alive.”
about doug
Born in Washington, D.C., Doug Spearman’s roots in New Orleans stretch back more than two centuries. His connection to the city has always been personal—and after nearly thirty years in Los Angeles, he made the move to New Orleans permanent in 2020.
Doug’s career spans film, television, and theater as an actor, writer, producer, and director. As an actor, his work includes Noah’s Arc, Profiler, Found, Girlfriends, Law & Order, The Young and the Restless, and The Burial. As a filmmaker, he wrote, produced, and directed From Zero to I Love You and was a two-time Emmy–nominated director before the age of 27. He has also served as a network creative director for CBS, ABC, and NBC, bringing a rare behind-the-scenes perspective to his creative work.
Deeply invested in New Orleans’ arts community, Doug currently serves as Board President of the New Orleans Film Society (NOFS) and joined its board in 2021. He is also an adjunct professor in the Music and Theatre Department at Loyola University New Orleans. His past board service includes Outfest and Equality California in Los Angeles.
In addition to his work on screen and behind the camera, Doug remains active on stage in New Orleans, having acted in and directed productions with The Shakespeare Festival at Tulane University, Crescent City Stage, and The Tennessee Williams Theatre Company. He is also an avid photographer—and, by his own admission, a so-so polo player.
